Many years ago, after a degree in Psychology and Sociology and several computer and design courses I went on to work in the Advertising, Design & Digital space with OM Studios, Promowise Ltd, Explainer DC & Y&R Global. I was still trying to find my feet as a designer while doing an MBA in Project Management. It was around that time I saw an advert on social media titled “Crossover”. It was an idea that transformed how an entire nation and churches across the world marked the new year: “31st Night or Watchnight Service” was reimagined as Crossover — and the world followed, copied and owned it. I witnessed that moment firsthand, at a time when I was a technically capable but strategically hollow designer, chasing aesthetics without purpose. Hungry for more, I enrolled directly under the tutelage of the brand developer behind Crossover Nana K. Duah of Oxygen fame and immersed myself in the discipline of building brands that truly mean something beyond commodity and the make believe of Advertising. I learned his “brandinkra” brand strategy framework and overtime developed my own. I put that knowledge to the test by launching a restaurant, anchored by one bold, ownable message: “Well-behaved kenkey” at a tough economic time when people were cutting corners for survival sake and the preparation of kenkey was being adulterated into something with a totally pungent smell and off-putting taste. The Gold Coast Kenkey brand went viral organically, earning an 84% approval rating from over 300 unsolicited reviews — proof that clarity converts. For the past decade, I’ve channelled that strategy and real-world brand, design, entrepreneurial and business experience into helping business owners build intentional, growth-driving brands.
